Role of Anaesthesia & Operation Theatre Technology
Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology is an essential healthcare profession responsible for providing technical assistance during surgical procedures and ensuring the safe functioning of operation theatres. Anaesthesia and OT Technologists assist surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and nursing teams before, during, and after surgery, contributing significantly to successful surgical outcomes.
The profession involves preparation of operation theatres, sterilization of instruments, maintenance of anaesthesia equipment, patient positioning, monitoring vital signs, infection prevention, emergency response, and postoperative care support.
Students receive training in surgical instrumentation, anaesthesia machines, operation theatre management, sterilization techniques, critical care principles, emergency medicine, trauma care, patient monitoring, and biomedical equipment.
The curriculum combines classroom teaching, skill laboratories, simulation training, and clinical postings in operation theatres across multiple surgical specialties.
Graduates can work in multispecialty hospitals, trauma centres, transplant units, emergency departments, day-care surgical centres, military hospitals, and medical device companies.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualifying Examination
Candidates must have passed the two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by the Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka State, or an equivalent examination recognized by the University with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
Marks
Minimum 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
40% aggregate marks for SC/ST/Category-I candidates.
Age Limit
Candidate should have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the admission year.
